Laundry Load Cost Calculator

Multiply your weekly loads by the cost of one load — detergent, water and energy combined — to see the running total.

—

The result shows your weekly laundry cost first, followed by an approximate monthly cost, so you can see both the short-term and monthly spending.

Formula

Weekly cost = loads per week x cost per load. Monthly = weekly x 4.33.

How it works

Cost per load covers detergent, water and electricity. Cold washes and full loads cut all three at once.

If you use a laundrette, the machine fee dominates the cost — at home, energy and detergent matter more.

Worked example

For example, 5 loads per week at $0.80 per load give a weekly cost of $4.00, and $4.00 × 4.33 = $17.32 per month approximately.

FAQs

How do I find my cost per load?
Divide a detergent bottle's price by its stated loads, then add rough water and energy costs, or use your machine's energy rating.

Does washing cold really save money?
Yes — heating water is the biggest energy cost of a wash, so cold cycles are noticeably cheaper.

Why 4.33 weeks per month?
Because a year has 52 weeks, and 52 / 12 is about 4.33 — more accurate than assuming exactly 4 weeks.
