Bill Split Calculator

Divide the total bill by the number of people to see what each person owes.

โ€”

This result is the amount each person owes when the total bill is divided equally among the number of people entered.

Formula

Each share = total bill / number of people.

How it works

Even splits are simplest when everyone ordered similarly. If one person ordered far more, a fairer split accounts for that separately.

Rounding each share up to the nearest dollar leaves a small buffer for tax or a tip if those were not included.

Worked example

For example, a total bill of $120 split among 4 people gives $120 รท 4 = $30.00 each.

FAQs

What if the split does not divide evenly?
Round each share to the nearest cent and let one person cover the odd cent, or round up slightly.

Should tax be included before splitting?
Yes โ€” split the final total everyone actually owes, including tax, so nothing is left unpaid.

What if someone did not eat?
Then an even split is unfair. Split only among those who shared the meal, or split by what each ordered.
