Fuel Cost Trip Calculator
From distance, your car's consumption and the fuel price, see how many litres a trip needs and what it will cost.
This result shows how many litres the trip needs and what those litres cost in total, so the fuel budget for the trip can be planned in advance.
Formula
Fuel (litres) = distance / 100 x consumption. Cost = fuel x price per litre.
How it works
Real consumption rises with city driving, heavy loads, roof boxes and air conditioning, so add a small buffer for a long trip.
If your car reports consumption differently, convert first: litres per 100 km and miles per gallon describe the same thing in different units.
Worked example
For example, a 300 km trip at 8 litres per 100 km needs 300 / 100 x 8 = 24.0 litres of fuel, and at $1.60 per litre the trip costs 24.0 x $1.60 = $38.40.
FAQs
Why does my car use more fuel than the official figure?
Official figures come from standardised tests. Real traffic, speed, hills and load all push consumption higher.
How can I cut trip fuel cost?
Steady speeds, correct tyre pressure, light packing and removing a roof box all help noticeably.
Should I add a buffer?
Yes — plan for about 10% more fuel than the estimate, so a detour or traffic does not leave you short.
