Waist-to-Hip Ratio Calculator
Divide waist by hip measurement for a simple fat-distribution indicator.
The result compares waist size with hip size; a higher value means more size is carried around the waist relative to the hips.
Formula
Waist-to-hip ratio equals waist circumference divided by hip circumference.
How it works
Measure waist at the navel and hip at the widest point, then divide. A higher ratio means more weight carried around the waist relative to the hips.
Worked example
For example, a waist of 85 cm and hips of 100 cm give 85 ÷ 100 = 0.85.
FAQs
What is a high ratio?
Rough guides are above 0.90 for men and 0.85 for women, but these are screening guides only.
Does it replace BMI?
No. It adds distribution information that BMI misses.
How should I measure?
Standing, relaxed, tape level and snug, not pulled tight.
General information only, not medical advice.
