Sales Growth Rate Calculator
Measure sales growth between two periods as a percentage change.
A sales growth figure of 25.0% means current period sales are 25.0% higher than previous period sales.
Formula
Sales growth rate = (current period sales minus previous period sales) divided by previous period sales, multiplied by 100.
How it works
Put last period's sales beside this period's sales, using equal-length periods such as two months or two years. A positive percentage means growth, a negative one means sales shrank. Comparing equal periods avoids seasonal distortion.
Worked example
For example, with previous period sales of $80000 and current period sales of $100000, the growth rate is ($100000 - $80000) / $80000 x 100 = 25.0%.
FAQs
Should I compare months or years?
Either, as long as both periods are the same length. Year-on-year comparisons smooth out seasonal swings.
What if previous sales were zero?
Growth cannot be expressed as a percentage from zero, so this calculator asks for a positive starting figure.
Does growth mean profit grew too?
Not necessarily. Sales can grow while profit falls if costs grew faster.
