Salary Cost With Overhead Calculator

Find the true annual cost of an employee by adding overhead percentage to base salary.

—

This is the full yearly cost of employing someone, including overhead on top of salary, with the matching monthly figure for budgeting.

Formula

Total cost = salary multiplied by (1 plus overhead as a decimal). Overhead covers employer taxes, benefits, equipment and workspace costs.

How it works

A salary is never the full cost of employing someone. Add a percentage for taxes, benefits, tools and space to see the real budget figure. Using the full cost prevents hiring plans from quietly going over budget.

Worked example

For example, a $50,000 salary with 25% overhead costs 50,000 × 1.25 = $62,500 per year, which is $62,500 ÷ 12 = $5,208.33 per month.

FAQs

What overhead percentage should I use?
It varies by country and benefits. Twenty to forty percent is a common planning range for small businesses.

Does this include recruitment cost?
No, one-off hiring costs are separate. This covers ongoing annual employment cost.

Why does this matter for pricing?
Service prices must cover full staff costs, not just salaries, or margins will be thinner than expected.
