Runway Months Calculator
Estimate how many months current cash will last at the present monthly burn rate.
This is how many months the cash lasts at the current monthly burn rate, assuming spending and income stay unchanged.
Formula
Runway in months = cash available divided by monthly burn rate.
How it works
Divide the cash in the bank by what the business spends net each month. The answer tells you roughly when money runs out if nothing changes. Most founders aim to raise money or reach profit well before runway hits zero.
Worked example
For example, $45,000 of cash divided by a $15,000 monthly burn rate gives 45,000 ÷ 15,000 = 3.0 months of runway.
FAQs
What if burn changes?
Runway changes with it. Recalculate whenever spending or income shifts, and use a conservative burn figure for planning.
Does runway include future income?
This simple version does not. If income is coming in, use net burn, which already accounts for it.
How much runway is safe?
There is no single rule, but planning with only a month or two left leaves little room for delays.
