Email Open Rate Calculator
Estimate how many delivered emails were opened as a percentage of those sent.
This result is the share of sent emails that were opened, expressed as a percentage.
Formula
Open rate = emails opened divided by emails sent, multiplied by 100. This is a rough guide, since some opens are not tracked.
How it works
Enter how many emails went out and how many were recorded as opened. The percentage hints at subject-line strength and list quality. Very low rates often point to stale lists or subject lines that do not earn the open.
Worked example
For example, 250 emails opened out of 1000 emails sent gives 250 ÷ 1000 × 100 = 25.0%.
FAQs
Why is open rate only rough?
Some email apps block tracking images, so real opens can be higher than the recorded figure.
Should bounced emails count?
Ideally divide by delivered emails, not sent ones. Using sent emails gives a slightly lower, conservative rate.
What improves open rates?
Clear subject lines, a clean list, sensible send times and content people actually want.
