Cycling Calories Burned Calculator
Estimate cycling energy use from weight, time and riding effort.
The result is an estimate of the energy used during the ride, in kilocalories, for the weight, time, and effort level you entered.
Formula
Calories equal MET value × weight in kilograms × hours of cycling.
How it works
Effort sets the MET value, time converts to hours, and weight scales the total. Hills and wind change real effort a lot, so a flat-road estimate will understate a hilly ride.
Worked example
For example, a 70 kg rider cycling at a moderate effort level for 60 minutes burns about 8 × 70 × 1 = 560 kcal.
FAQs
Does bike weight matter?
A little, but rider weight dominates the calculation.
Why do estimates vary so much?
Speed, hills and wind are not in this simple formula.
Is outdoor different from indoor?
Indoor trainers remove wind and hills, so effort bands differ.
