Churn Rate Calculator
Measure the share of customers lost in a period as a percentage of those at the start.
This result is the share of starting customers lost during the period, so a higher percentage means more customers left and fewer remain.
Formula
Churn rate = customers lost during the period divided by customers at the start of the period, multiplied by 100.
How it works
Count customers at the start of the month or year, then how many left during it. The percentage shows how leaky the customer base is. High churn means the business must constantly replace lost customers just to stand still.
Worked example
For example, 10 customers lost out of 200 at the start gives 10 ÷ 200 × 100 = 5.0%, leaving 200 − 10 = 190 customers remaining.
FAQs
Do new customers count?
No, the denominator is customers at the start. New joiners during the period are not part of this rate.
Monthly or annual churn?
Both are used, but do not compare a monthly rate directly with an annual one. State the period every time.
What lowers churn?
Better onboarding, good service and regular follow-up usually help, but first measure it so change is visible.
