Calories Burned Walking Calculator
Estimate walking energy use from weight, distance and walking speed.
The result is an estimate of the energy used during the walk, so about 245 kcal means the walk is estimated to burn roughly 245 kilocalories in total.
Formula
Calories equal MET value × weight in kilograms × hours, with MET chosen by walking speed.
How it works
Speed picks a MET band for walking effort, time comes from distance divided by speed, and the three multiply together. Hills, load carried and terrain raise real burn above this flat-ground figure.
Worked example
For example, a 70 kg person walking 5 km at 5 km/h takes 5 ÷ 5 = 1 hour, and with a MET value of 3.5 the result is 3.5 × 70 × 1 = 245 kcal, so the calculator shows about 245 kcal for 5 km at 5 km/h.
FAQs
What is a MET?
One MET is resting energy use; walking at 5 km/h is about 3.5 times that.
Does faster walking burn much more?
Yes per minute, but a fixed distance at higher speed takes less time, so totals are closer.
Is this exact?
