Wedding Loan Total Interest Calculator (25 Years)
Estimate total interest paid over a loan. This wedding version uses a 25-year planning term as its starting point.
The Total interest is the extra cost of borrowing on top of the original loan amount over 25 years, and the Total paid is the loan amount plus that interest, meaning the full amount handed over by the final payment.
Formula
Total interest equals monthly EMI times number of payments minus the principal.
How it works
A longer term lowers the monthly payment but raises total interest.
Worked example
Loan $200,000, annual rate 6.5%, term 25 years. The monthly rate is 6.5% divided by 12, which is about 0.5417% a month, and the number of payments is 25 times 12, which is 300. Using the EMI formula, the monthly payment is $1,350.41. Over 300 payments the total paid is $405,124.30, so the total interest is $405,124.30 minus $200,000, which is $205,124.30. That is the calculator's own result for these defaults.
Who this term suits for a wedding: A couple on a long household timeline, such as a wedding loan folded into a twenty-five-year family budget, where $1,350.41 a month is the priority and the loan is treated like a second mortgage rather than event debt.
FAQs
Why does a longer loan cost more interest?
More payments mean interest is charged for longer, so total interest rises even if each payment is smaller.
Is this wedding calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
Why is the 25-year interest more than the amount borrowed?
Because 300 months of interest at 6.5% add up to $205,124.30, which is more than the $200,000 borrowed. The total paid is $405,124.30, so the couple pays back double the loan, which is the hidden cost of a very long term.
What if the wedding loan were only $100,000 instead of $200,000?
Halving the loan halves every figure at the same rate and term: the payment would be about $675.21 a month, the total paid about $202,562.15, and the total interest about $102,562.15.
How should a couple review a 25-year wedding loan?
Yearly: check whether income has risen enough to pay extra and shorten the term, because every year cut from the end saves a full year of interest. A 25-year term should never be left on autopilot for a wedding debt.
