Wedding Loan Total Interest Calculator (15 Years)

Estimate total interest paid over a loan. This wedding version uses a 15-year planning term as its starting point.

—

The Total interest is the extra cost of borrowing on top of the original loan amount over 15 years, and the Total paid is the loan amount plus that interest, meaning the full amount handed over by the final payment.

Formula

Total interest equals monthly EMI times number of payments minus the principal.

How it works

A longer term lowers the monthly payment but raises total interest.

Worked example

Loan $200,000, annual rate 6.5%, term 15 years. The monthly rate is 6.5% divided by 12, which is about 0.5417% a month, and the number of payments is 15 times 12, which is 180. Using the EMI formula, the monthly payment is $1,742.21. Over 180 payments the total paid is $313,598.65, so the total interest is $313,598.65 minus $200,000, which is $113,598.65. That is the calculator's own result for these defaults.

Who this term suits for a wedding: A couple who borrowed for a wedding and the home that followed it, such as wedding costs rolled into a longer household loan, where $1,742.21 a month fits a single income but the loan runs for fifteen years.

FAQs

Why does a longer loan cost more interest?
More payments mean interest is charged for longer, so total interest rises even if each payment is smaller.

Is this wedding calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.

Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.

Why does the 15-year interest pass $100,000?
Because 180 months of interest at 6.5% add up: the total interest is $113,598.65, more than half the $200,000 borrowed. Each payment is smaller, $1,742.21, but interest is charged for fifteen years, so the total cost climbs steeply.

What if the wedding loan were only $100,000 instead of $200,000?
Halving the loan halves every figure at the same rate and term: the payment would be about $871.11 a month, the total paid about $156,799.33, and the total interest about $56,799.33.

Should wedding debt ever run for 15 years?
Only if the loan also covers lasting things, like a home deposit or a family business, rather than a single celebration. For wedding-only costs, fifteen years means paying $113,598.65 of interest for one event, so a shorter term or a smaller loan is usually wiser.
