Wedding Loan EMI Calculator (10 Years)
Estimate the monthly EMI for a loan from amount, rate and term. This wedding version uses a 10-year planning term as its starting point.
The Monthly payment is the fixed amount due every month for 10 years, and the Total paid is everything handed over across the whole term, including interest on top of the loan itself.
Formula
EMI equals principal times monthly rate times one plus monthly rate to the power of payments, divided by that power minus one.
How it works
This assumes a fixed rate and equal monthly payments with no extra fees.
Worked example
Loan amount $200,000, annual rate 6.5%, term 10 years. The monthly rate is 6.5% divided by 12, which is about 0.5417% a month, and the number of payments is 10 times 12, which is 120 months. Using the page formula, the EMI is $2,270.96 a month. That is the calculator's own result for these defaults. Over 120 payments the total paid is $272,515.15, so the interest paid is $272,515.15 minus $200,000, which is $72,515.15.
Who this term suits for a wedding: A couple who need a lower monthly payment than the 5-year term allows, for example newlyweds balancing rent and wedding debt in their first decade together.
FAQs
What is an EMI?
An EMI is a fixed monthly payment that covers both interest and principal over the loan term.
Is this wedding calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
Why does the 10-year EMI fall to $2,270.96 a month?
Spreading the same $200,000 over 120 payments instead of 60 cuts the monthly amount, but total interest more than doubles to $72,515.15, because interest runs for twice as long.
Is 10 years too long to repay a wedding loan?
For many couples it is, because the wedding is a single event while the debt lasts a decade. A 10-year term only makes sense if the monthly payment must stay near $2,270.96 and the couple accepts the extra interest.
Can extra payments shorten a 10-year wedding loan?
Extra payments usually cut the remaining term and total interest, but only if the lender allows prepayment without a penalty. Check the loan terms before counting on it.
