Wedding Credit Card Monthly Interest Calculator (5 Years)
Estimate monthly interest on a card balance. This wedding version uses a 5-year planning term as its starting point.
This monthly interest figure is the cost of carrying the balance for one month at the entered rate, before any payment toward the balance itself, so paying only this amount leaves the balance unchanged and the same charge can repeat each month.
Formula
Monthly interest equals balance times annual rate divided by 100 divided by 12.
How it works
Paying only interest leaves the balance unchanged. Paying more than interest reduces the balance.
Worked example
Balance $5,000, annual rate 18%, term 5 years. Using the page formula, the monthly interest is $5,000 times 18 divided by 100 divided by 12, which gives $75.00 a month. That is the calculator's own result for these defaults, and it is the same on every page in this group because the term is not an input: only the balance and the rate are entered. Paying only that $75 of interest leaves the balance unchanged, so over 60 months the interest paid is 60 times $75, which is $4,500, and the $5,000 is still owed at the end. This total is an illustration only, assuming the rate stays at 18% and no payments beyond interest are made; it is not a second output of this page.
Who this term suits for a wedding: a couple clearing a wedding debt on a short deadline, such as a venue deposit put on a card, a dress or photography package paid by card, or a honeymoon booked on credit that must be gone before the next big expense arrives in about 5 years.
FAQs
Why is card interest high?
Card rates are usually higher than loan rates, so balances grow quickly if only minimum payments are made.
Is this wedding calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
If I pay only $75 a month for 5 years, is the wedding card cleared?
No. Paying only the $75 of interest leaves the $5,000 balance unchanged, so after 5 years the couple still owes $5,000 and has paid $4,500 in interest. To clear $5,000 in 60 months at 18 percent needs about $126.97 a month, not $75.
What wedding cost makes a 5-year card plan worth it?
Only a cost that is cleared quickly, such as a small deposit or a single supplier invoice paid off within a few months. A wedding balance carried for a full 5 years at card rates costs nearly as much again in interest, so it is rarely worth it.
How much above $75 a month starts to clear $5,000 in 5 years?
Any payment above $75 starts to reduce the balance, because the first $75 each month is interest. At about $126.97 a month the balance is cleared in 60 months; at $100 a month it falls slowly and takes far longer than 5 years.
