Travel Return on Investment Calculator (35 Years)
Calculate return on investment as a percentage. This travel version uses a 35-year planning term as its starting point.
The Return is the total percentage gain over the whole period: a positive percentage means the final value is higher than the amount invested, while a negative percentage means it is lower.
Formula
Return equals final value minus invested amount, divided by invested amount, times 100.
How it works
A positive return means the final value is higher than the amount invested.
Worked example
A travel fund starts with $10,000 invested and ends with a final value of $15,000. Return equals final value minus invested amount, divided by invested amount, times 100, so the return is ($15,000 - $10,000) / $10,000 x 100 = 50.00%. Spread over the 35-year planning term, that total return equals about 1.17% a year.
Travel use case: A family saving for trips across generations puts $10,000 into a travel fund thirty-five years ahead and watches it grow to $15,000, helping pay for holidays that children and later grandchildren can share.
FAQs
What is a good ROI?
There is no single good figure. Compare returns over the same period and with the same risk before deciding.
Is this travel calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
Can one fund cover family trips across 35 years?
It can help, but it rarely covers everything. Use it for the largest shared trips and fund smaller family holidays from yearly income.
How do I plan trips for children and grandchildren?
Plan around school holidays and family milestones, and keep the fund flexible, since the ages and interests of younger travellers change over 35 years.
What happens to the fund if I travel less than planned?
The money stays invested and keeps its return. It can then fund larger trips later, or be passed on for the next generation of family travel.
