Travel Return on Investment Calculator (10 Years)

Calculate return on investment as a percentage. This travel version uses a 10-year planning term as its starting point.

—

The Return is the total percentage gain over the whole period: a positive percentage means the final value is higher than the amount invested, while a negative percentage means it is lower.

Formula

Return equals final value minus invested amount, divided by invested amount, times 100.

How it works

A positive return means the final value is higher than the amount invested.

Worked example

A travel fund starts with $10,000 invested and ends with a final value of $15,000. Return equals final value minus invested amount, divided by invested amount, times 100, so the return is ($15,000 - $10,000) / $10,000 x 100 = 50.00%. Spread over the 10-year planning term, that total return equals about 4.14% a year.

Travel use case: A family building a travel fund over ten years puts $10,000 aside and sees it reach $15,000, enough to upgrade a decade of annual holidays or pay for one large family trip.

FAQs

What is a good ROI?
There is no single good figure. Compare returns over the same period and with the same risk before deciding.

Is this travel calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.

Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.

How do I plan a travel fund over 10 years?
Start with the trips you expect over the decade, add up their likely cost, and check each year whether the fund is on track to reach that total.

Should annual trips come out of the same fund?
They can, but track withdrawals separately. Every trip taken from the fund lowers the final value, so the return on what remains will look smaller.

Does inflation change a 10-year trip budget?
Yes. Flight and hotel prices usually rise over ten years, so a fund that grows 50% may buy less travel at the end than the same money would buy today.
