Travel Retirement Corpus Calculator (20 Years)

Estimate a retirement corpus from monthly savings. This travel version uses a 20-year planning term as its starting point.

—

This Future value is the total your monthly savings could grow to after 20 years at the rate you entered, so it shows how steady saving plus interest builds the travel fund over time.

Formula

Corpus uses the monthly rate and number of monthly savings to grow each saving with interest.

How it works

Starting earlier matters more than saving a little more later, because interest has longer to compound.

Worked example

Monthly saving $500, annual rate 7 percent, term 20 years. The monthly rate is 7 percent divided by 12, which is about 0.5833 percent a month, and the number of savings is 20 times 12, which is 240 months. Using the page formula, the future value is $500 times one plus the monthly rate to the power of 240, minus one, divided by the monthly rate, which gives $260,463.33. That is the calculator output for these defaults. The traveller pays in $120,000 in total, so $140,463.33 of the corpus is interest.

Who this term suits for a traveller: a traveller with two decades to go, for whom interest passes the amount paid in — a retirement travel fund that can cover regular long-haul trips, a campervan, or a seasonal base abroad, if the saving is kept up every month.

FAQs

When should I start saving for retirement?
As early as possible. Time in the market allows compounding to do more of the work.

Is this travel calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.

Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.

Why does interest pass $100,000 over 20 years?
Because compounding accelerates. By 20 years the corpus is $260,463.33, of which $140,463.33 is interest — more than the $120,000 paid in — since the earliest savings have compounded for the full twenty years.

Does a 20-year travel retirement plan survive changing destinations?
Yes, if it is reviewed. The money itself does not care where it is spent, but twenty years of changing travel tastes, prices, and health mean the goal behind the figure should be revisited regularly.

Is 7 percent a safe return to assume for 20 years?
It is only an assumption, not a guarantee. A lower real average return would leave the same $500 a month well short of $260,463.33, so the plan should be stress-tested at a lower rate too.
