Startup Loan EMI Calculator (15 Years)

Estimate the monthly EMI for a loan from amount, rate and term. This startup version uses a 15-year planning term as its starting point.

—

This Monthly payment is the fixed amount due every month for the 15-year term, and the Total paid is the sum of all those monthly payments over the full term, including both the loan amount and the interest.

Formula

EMI equals principal times monthly rate times one plus monthly rate to the power of payments, divided by that power minus one.

How it works

This assumes a fixed rate and equal monthly payments with no extra fees.

Worked example

Loan amount 200,000 dollars, annual interest rate 6.5 percent, term 15 years. The monthly rate is 6.5 percent divided by 12, which is about 0.5417 percent a month, and the number of payments is 15 times 12, which is 180 months. Using the page formula, the monthly EMI is 1,742.21 dollars. That is the calculator output for these defaults.

Over the full term, the total paid is 1,742.21 dollars times 180 months, which is 313,598.65 dollars. The interest is 313,598.65 dollars minus the 200,000 dollar loan, which is 113,598.65 dollars. These totals use the unrounded EMI, as the calculator does, so multiplying the rounded EMI by 180 may differ by a dollar or two.

Who this term suits for a startup founder: a startup buying or fitting out its own premises, or financing long-life equipment such as a production line or a delivery fleet. Fifteen years keeps the monthly payment manageable, but interest passes 100,000 dollars, so the premises or equipment must genuinely serve the business for the full term.

FAQs

What is an EMI?
An EMI is a fixed monthly payment that covers both interest and principal over the loan term.

Is this startup calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.

Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.

Why does interest pass 100,000 dollars over 15 years?
Because 180 payments of 1,742.21 dollars total 313,598.65 dollars, so interest is 313,598.65 minus 200,000, which is 113,598.65 dollars. The longer the money is owed, the more interest accumulates.

Is a 15-year loan right for a startup office fit-out?
Only if the startup plans to stay in those premises for most of the 15 years. If it may outgrow the space in 5 years, a shorter loan or a rented space is safer.

What happens if the startup's revenue falls in year 8?
The EMI of 1,742.21 dollars does not fall with revenue. A fixed EMI is a fixed commitment, so the startup should keep a cash reserve for slow months before taking a 15-year loan.
