Spice Blend Ratio Calculator

Enter the parts of three spices in your blend and the total weight you want — each spice is scaled to keep the same balance.

—

This result gives the weight of each spice to use, so the blend keeps the same ratio at the total weight entered.

Formula

Each spice = total weight x (its parts / total parts).

How it works

Blends are easiest to describe in parts, not grams: 3-2-1 is easy to remember and scales to any jar size.

Toast whole spices and grind them fresh when you can — a blend made today smells far stronger than one bought months ago.

Worked example

For example, with parts of 3, 2 and 1 and a total weight of 60 g, the blend uses 30.0 g paprika, 20.0 g cumin and 10.0 g garlic powder.

FAQs

What does 'parts' mean?
Any consistent unit: parts could be teaspoons, tablespoons or grams. Only the ratios between them matter.

Can I swap a spice in the blend?
Yes, swap it in the same number of parts. The balance stays similar even if the flavour changes.

How long does a homemade blend keep?
About 3–6 months in a sealed jar away from heat and light, before the aroma fades noticeably.
