Slope Calculator

Find the slope of a straight line through two points, the rise divided by the run.

—

A slope of 2 means the line rises by 2 units for every 1 unit it moves to the right, so the line climbs steeply upward.

Formula

Slope = (y2 − y1) ÷ (x2 − x1), the change in y divided by the change in x.

How it works

Enter two points. The calculator subtracts the coordinates, then divides the vertical change by the horizontal change. A vertical line has no defined slope.

Worked example

For example, with points (0, 0) and (4, 8), the slope is (8 − 0) ÷ (4 − 0) = 8 ÷ 4 = 2.

FAQs

What does the Slope do?
It takes the values you enter and works out the slope for you, showing the result straight away.

What should I enter?
Enter ordinary numbers in the boxes above. If a value does not make sense for this calculation, the page will ask you to check it instead of showing a wrong answer.

Can I use the result for homework or everyday math?
Yes. It is a general-purpose math helper; for exam or professional work, still check the steps against your own working.
