Servings Calculator
Divide the total weight of a finished dish by a sensible portion size to see how many people it feeds.
This result is how many servings the dish makes, with the whole number in brackets showing the count of full servings.
Formula
Servings = total weight / portion size.
How it works
Portion size depends on the dish: a light soup serving is smaller than a main-course stew serving, and side dishes run smaller than mains.
Round down when planning for guests — it is better to have a little extra than to run short at the table.
Worked example
For example, a 1200 g dish divided into 150 g portions gives 1200 / 150 = 8.0 servings, which is about 8 full servings.
FAQs
What is a normal main-course portion?
Around 150–200 g of a cooked main dish per adult is a common planning figure.
Do children count as full servings?
Usually not. Younger children eat roughly half an adult portion, so count two children as about one adult serving.
Why use weight instead of counting pieces?
Weight is consistent. Pieces vary in size, but grams stay comparable from batch to batch.
