Convert a pet's age in years and months into total months.

This Total age is the pet's age written as a single total in months, together with the same age in years and months.

Formula

Total months equal years multiplied by 12, plus extra months.

How it works

Years are converted to months and the remainder added. Vets, insurers and food guides often ask for age in months for young animals, where a few months matter.

Worked example

For example, a pet aged 2 years and 6 extra months gives 2 × 12 + 6 = 30 months, so the total age is 30 months.
