Investment Savings Goal Monthly Deposit Calculator (25 Years)

Find the monthly deposit needed to reach a savings goal. This investment version uses a 25-year planning term as its starting point.

—

Interpretation: the Monthly deposit figure is the fixed amount to save every month for 25 years, or 300 monthly deposits, at the annual rate entered, so that those deposits plus assumed growth reach the goal amount; a lower real rate would leave the same monthly deposit short of the goal, and missing deposits would leave it shorter still.

Formula

Monthly deposit equals goal times monthly rate divided by one plus monthly rate to the power of months minus one.

How it works

Saving a fixed amount each month with interest reaches the goal faster than saving without interest.

Worked example

Goal amount $50,000, annual rate 5%, term 25 years. The monthly rate is 5% divided by 12, which is about 0.4167% a month, and the number of deposits is 25 times 12, which is 300 months. Using the page formula, the monthly deposit is $50,000 times the monthly rate, divided by one plus the monthly rate to the power of 300, minus one, which gives $83.96 a month. That is the calculator output for these defaults. Over the term the deposits total $25188.51, so growth covers $24811.49 of the $50,000 goal. Without any interest the same goal would need $166.67 a month, so interest saves about $82.70 a month on average at the assumed rate. The 5% rate is only the entered assumption; a lower real average return would leave the same deposit short of the goal.

Who this term suits for an investor: a young investor starting a retirement pot or a long-term wealth fund early, where time does most of the work — the deposit looks small, but the plan asks for 300 months of discipline through market ups and downs.

FAQs

How much should I save each month?
Divide the goal by the growth of regular deposits at the assumed rate to get the monthly amount.

Is this investment calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.

Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.

Is $83.96 a month really enough for a $50,000 investment goal?
At the assumed 5% over 300 months, yes: deposits total $25,188.51 and growth covers $24,811.49, nearly half the goal — but only if the return averages 5% and no deposits are missed.

What is the biggest risk in a 25-year investment plan?
Stopping early or never raising the deposit: inflation, fees and changing income matter more over 25 years than any single year of market movement.

Should the deposit rise as income grows over 25 years?
Usually yes: keeping $83.96 fixed for 25 years ignores rising prices and income, so raising it over time keeps the goal realistic and can shorten the plan.
