Ingredient Converter Cups to Grams Calculator
Cups measure volume, so the same cup weighs differently for flour and sugar. Pick an ingredient and the converter uses its typical weight per cup.
This result is the weight of the chosen ingredient for the number of cups entered, so it can be weighed on a scale instead of measured by volume.
Formula
Grams = cups x weight of one cup of that ingredient.
How it works
Because flour can be scooped loosely or packed tightly, cup weights vary. The values here are common kitchen averages, good enough for everyday baking.
For the most reliable results, weigh dry ingredients on a scale — especially flour, where a heavy scoop can change a dough noticeably.
Worked example
For example, 2 cups of all-purpose flour at 120 g per cup gives 2 × 120 = 240 g.
FAQs
Why does one cup of flour weigh less than one cup of sugar?
Flour is light and airy while sugar crystals pack densely, so the same volume holds less flour by weight.
Are these weights exact?
No — they are typical averages. Brands and scooping style shift them slightly, but they are close enough for home recipes.
What about liquids?
For water and milk, 1 cup is about 240 ml. Thick liquids like honey are heavier, which is why honey is listed separately.
