Home Retirement Corpus Calculator (5 Years)

Estimate a retirement corpus from monthly savings. This home version uses a 5-year planning term as its starting point.

—

The Future value is the total amount your monthly savings are expected to grow to by retirement after 5 years, including interest earned along the way, so it is the lump sum available to support living costs in retirement rather than only the money you paid in.

Formula

Corpus uses the monthly rate and number of monthly savings to grow each saving with interest.

How it works

Starting earlier matters more than saving a little more later, because interest has longer to compound.

Worked example

Monthly saving $500, annual rate 7%, term 5 years. The monthly rate is 7% divided by 12, which is about 0.5833% a month, and the number of deposits is 5 times 12, which is 60 months. Using the page formula, the corpus is $500 times one plus the monthly rate to the power of 60, minus one, divided by the monthly rate, which gives $35796.45. That is the calculator's own output for these defaults. Deposits paid in total $30000, so growth from interest is $35796.45 minus $30000, which is $5796.45.

Who this term suits for a home household: a home household racing a short deadline, for example a couple in their late fifties who want to clear the last years of a mortgage and build a small retirement cushion before stopping work in about 5 years, where the deposit must be protected even when a roof repair or boiler replacement lands.

FAQs

When should I start saving for retirement?
As early as possible. Time in the market allows compounding to do more of the work.

Is this home calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.

Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.

Can $500 a month build a retirement corpus in only 5 years?
It builds $35,796.45 at the page defaults, but most of that is the $30,000 paid in, because interest has only 60 months to help. Five years is a top-up, not a full retirement fund.

Is 5 years too short to retire at home on this corpus?
For most households, yes. A $35,796.45 corpus will not cover many years of home costs, so a 5-year plan works best alongside a pension, savings already built, or a mortgage-free home.

What if home costs rise before retirement in 5 years?
Rising utility bills, insurance or a big repair can force missed deposits. Protect the $500 first, and keep a separate home repair buffer so retirement saving is not raided.
