Home Retirement Corpus Calculator (30 Years)
Estimate a retirement corpus from monthly savings. This home version uses a 30-year planning term as its starting point.
The Future value is the total amount your monthly savings are expected to grow to by retirement after 30 years, including interest earned along the way, so it is the lump sum available to support living costs in retirement rather than only the money you paid in.
Formula
Corpus uses the monthly rate and number of monthly savings to grow each saving with interest.
How it works
Starting earlier matters more than saving a little more later, because interest has longer to compound.
Worked example
Monthly saving $500, annual rate 7%, term 30 years. The monthly rate is 7% divided by 12, which is about 0.5833% a month, and the number of deposits is 30 times 12, which is 360 months. Using the page formula, the corpus is $500 times one plus the monthly rate to the power of 360, minus one, divided by the monthly rate, which gives $609985.50. That is the calculator's own output for these defaults. Deposits paid in total $180000, so growth from interest is $609985.50 minus $180000, which is $429985.50.
Who this term suits for a home household: a home household planning a full working-life retirement, for example owners who expect to retire in about 30 years and want a corpus large enough to keep the home running, with help at home if needed, for decades after work ends.
FAQs
When should I start saving for retirement?
As early as possible. Time in the market allows compounding to do more of the work.
Is this home calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
Why does the 30-year figure reach $609,985.50?
Because $180,000 of deposits has 360 months at 7% to compound, growth reaches $429,985.50. The last ten years alone add more than the first twenty years combined.
Can a $609,985.50 corpus cover 30 years of home costs?
It can cover a large part of them in a mortgage-free home, but home costs, care and inflation over 30 years are uncertain, so the figure should be reviewed, not trusted blindly.
What should a home household do if retirement comes early?
Recheck the plan at once: fewer deposits and a longer retirement both shrink what the corpus must cover, so the $500 may need to rise or the home plan may need to change.
