Home Retirement Corpus Calculator (25 Years)
Estimate a retirement corpus from monthly savings. This home version uses a 25-year planning term as its starting point.
The Future value result is the total retirement pot built from your monthly savings plus the interest earned on them over 25 years, so it is larger than the deposits paid in alone and it represents the amount available at retirement if the saving rate and return stay the same.
Formula
Corpus uses the monthly rate and number of monthly savings to grow each saving with interest.
How it works
Starting earlier matters more than saving a little more later, because interest has longer to compound.
Worked example
Monthly saving $500, annual rate 7%, term 25 years. The monthly rate is 7% divided by 12, which is about 0.5833% a month, and the number of deposits is 25 times 12, which is 300 months. Using the page formula, the corpus is $500 times one plus the monthly rate to the power of 300, minus one, divided by the monthly rate, which gives $405035.85. That is the calculator's own output for these defaults. Deposits paid in total $150000, so growth from interest is $405035.85 minus $150000, which is $255035.85.
Who this term suits for a home household: a home household saving across most of a working life, for example a couple who bought young and plan to retire in the same home in about 25 years, where the corpus must survive moves, repairs and changes in income along the way.
FAQs
When should I start saving for retirement?
As early as possible. Time in the market allows compounding to do more of the work.
Is this home calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
Why does the 25-year corpus reach $405,035.85?
Because $150,000 of deposits has 300 months to compound, growth reaches $255,035.85, more than the deposits themselves. Time, not a bigger deposit, does most of the work.
What is the biggest risk in a 25-year home retirement plan?
Stopping early. Missed years near the start cost far more than missed years near the end, because early deposits compound the longest.
Should the $500 rise as household income grows over 25 years?
Yes, if it can. Raising the deposit with pay rises protects the goal against inflation, because $500 in 25 years will not buy what $500 buys today.
