Home Retirement Corpus Calculator (15 Years)
Estimate a retirement corpus from monthly savings. This home version uses a 15-year planning term as its starting point.
The Future value result is the total retirement pot built from your monthly savings plus the interest earned on them over 15 years, so it is larger than the deposits paid in alone and it represents the amount available at retirement if the saving rate and return stay the same.
Formula
Corpus uses the monthly rate and number of monthly savings to grow each saving with interest.
How it works
Starting earlier matters more than saving a little more later, because interest has longer to compound.
Worked example
Monthly saving $500, annual rate 7%, term 15 years. The monthly rate is 7% divided by 12, which is about 0.5833% a month, and the number of deposits is 15 times 12, which is 180 months. Using the page formula, the corpus is $500 times one plus the monthly rate to the power of 180, minus one, divided by the monthly rate, which gives $158481.15. That is the calculator's own output for these defaults. Deposits paid in total $90000, so growth from interest is $158481.15 minus $90000, which is $68481.15.
Who this term suits for a home household: a home household planning a mortgage-free retirement, for example a family that expects the mortgage to end and the children to leave in about 15 years, so the same $500 can keep working once the house itself costs less each month.
FAQs
When should I start saving for retirement?
As early as possible. Time in the market allows compounding to do more of the work.
Is this home calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
How does $158,481.15 help a home household retire in 15 years?
It gives a real cushion: $90,000 paid in plus $68,481.15 of growth, enough to cover years of home running costs in a mortgage-free home, though not a whole retirement on its own.
Is 15 years long enough to clear the mortgage and save?
For many households it is a realistic window, because the mortgage often ends in this period and the freed payment can then join the $500 deposit.
What happens if home repairs eat the savings?
A new roof or boiler can wipe out years of deposits. Keep a separate repair fund, and restart the $500 as soon as the repair is paid for, rather than abandoning the plan.
