Farm Loan EMI Calculator (10 Years)

Estimate the monthly EMI for a loan from amount, rate and term. This farm version uses a 10-year planning term as its starting point.

—

The Monthly payment figure is the fixed amount you would pay every month for the full 10-year term, and the Total paid figure is everything you hand over across all those monthly payments, so the difference between Total paid and the loan amount you entered is the interest cost of borrowing.

Formula

EMI equals principal times monthly rate times one plus monthly rate to the power of payments, divided by that power minus one.

How it works

This assumes a fixed rate and equal monthly payments with no extra fees.

Worked example

Loan amount $200,000, annual rate 6.5%, term 10 years. The monthly rate is 6.5% divided by 12, which is 0.0054167, and there are 120 monthly payments. Using the page formula, the EMI is $2,270.96 a month. Over 120 payments the total paid is $272,515.15, so interest is $72,515.15, which is 36.3% of the amount borrowed. Doubling the term from 5 to 10 years cuts the EMI by $1,642.27 a month, but more than doubles the interest, from $34,793.78 to $72,515.15, because the balance stays higher for longer.

Who this term suits for a farm borrower: a farmer borrowing for equipment with a working life of about a decade, for example a tractor, a cold store or an irrigation system, where the loan should end around the time the equipment is replaced, not long after it.

FAQs

What is an EMI?
An EMI is a fixed monthly payment that covers both interest and principal over the loan term.

Is this farm calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.

Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.

Why does doubling the term from 5 to 10 years more than double the interest?
Because interest is charged every month on the balance still owed. Stretching the loan keeps the balance higher for more months, so $72,515.15 of interest builds up, against $34,793.78 over 5 years, even though the monthly payment falls.

Is 10 years the usual horizon for a farm equipment loan?
It is a common middle choice, because much farm machinery lasts around a decade. Match the term to the equipment life: a loan that outlives the tractor means paying for a machine that no longer earns.

What if a crop fails in year 3 of a 10-year farm loan?
The EMI does not pause on its own. A failed crop means the same $2,270.96 is still due, so keep a reserve or crop insurance in place, and ask the lender early about a payment holiday rather than missing payments.
