Dog Treat Calories Calculator

Work out a daily treat calorie budget as a share of a dog's daily calories, and how many treats that allows.

—

This result means treats should stay within about that daily calorie budget, or about that many treats at the entered calories per treat, so the main food still provides most of the diet.

Formula

Treat budget equals daily calories multiplied by the treat percentage; treat count equals budget divided by calories per treat.

How it works

The common 10% guide keeps treats from crowding out balanced food. Dividing the budget by calories per treat turns it into a countable daily number.

Worked example

For example, with 1,000 daily calories, a 10% treat share, and 25 kcal per treat, the treat budget is 1,000 × 10 ÷ 100 = 100 kcal per day, which allows 100 ÷ 25 = 4.0 treats per day.
