Coffee Brew Water Calculator

Multiply your servings by the water per cup, and see the coffee dose too, at a standard 1:16 ratio.

—

The result gives the total water to pour in millilitres and the coffee needed in grams at a 1:16 ratio, so you can measure both before brewing.

Formula

Total water = servings x water per serving. Coffee = total water / 16.

How it works

Brewing for a group is just scaling one good cup. Keep the ratio constant and the coffee tastes the same whether you brew one cup or ten.

If your brewer has a maximum capacity, split large batches rather than overfilling — an overflowing brewer makes weak, uneven coffee.

Worked example

For example, 4 servings at 250 ml per serving give 4 x 250 = 1,000 ml of total water, and 1,000 / 16 = 62.5 g of coffee.

FAQs

How much coffee do I need for 6 cups?
At 250 ml per cup and a 1:16 ratio, about 94 g of coffee for 1,500 ml of water.

Should I count the water absorbed by grounds?
No need. The ratio already accounts for a normal brew — just measure the water you pour in.

What if people want different strengths?
Brew one standard pot and let people dilute or strengthen their own cup with a little hot water or extra coffee.
