Car SIP Future Value Calculator (5 Years)
Estimate the future value of a regular investment plan. This car version uses a 5-year planning term as its starting point.
The Future value is the total amount your regular monthly investments are expected to grow to by the end of 5 years at the rate you entered, so you can compare it with the price of the car you plan to buy.
Formula
Future value uses the monthly rate and number of monthly investments to grow each investment with interest.
How it works
Regular investing smooths timing and lets compounding build the value over time.
Worked example
Monthly investment $300, annual rate 8%, term 5 years. First, the monthly rate is 8% divided by 12, which is 0.0066667, and the number of monthly investments is 5 times 12, which is 60. Using the future value formula, the future value is $300 times ((1.0066667 to the power of 60) minus 1) divided by 0.0066667, which is $22,043.06. Over 60 investments you pay in $18,000.00, and interest adds $4,043.06, which is 18.3% of the future value. After only 5 years most of the result is still your own monthly payments, because compounding has had little time to work, so this is best read as a deposit fund, not as investment growth doing the heavy lifting.
Who this term suits for a car owner: a driver saving for a first car, or for the deposit on a replacement car, while the current car still runs, for example putting $300 aside each month for a newer used car, a first family car, or a solid deposit that keeps the next car loan small.
FAQs
What is a SIP?
A SIP is a regular investment of a fixed amount, usually monthly, into a fund or plan.
Is this car calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
Is $300 a month for 5 years enough for a car deposit?
For many used cars, yes: $22,043.06 covers a full deposit and often a large part of the price, but for a new car it is usually a deposit only, so check the price of the car you actually want before you count on this figure.
Why is interest only $4,043.06 after 5 years?
Because only 60 monthly payments have gone in and the earliest payments have had just a few years to earn interest. Compounding needs time, so the interest share is small at 5 years and grows much larger over longer terms.
What happens if I need the car before 5 years are up?
You can still use what has built up so far, but the total will be smaller than $22,043.06 and the interest share will be even smaller. A shorter horizon usually means a smaller deposit or a bigger loan, so plan the purchase date around the fund, not the other way round.
