Business Inflation Adjusted Value Calculator (10 Years)
Estimate what an amount will be worth after inflation. This business version uses a 10-year planning term as its starting point.
In real terms, the Future amount is the sum you would need after 10 years at the entered inflation rate to buy the same things that the original amount buys today.
Formula
Future amount equals amount times one plus inflation rate to the power of years.
How it works
Inflation means the same amount buys less over time, so future prices are higher.
Worked example
Amount $10,000, inflation rate 3%, term 10 years. The growth factor is 1.03 to the power of 10, which is 1.343916. The future amount is $10,000 times 1.343916, which is $13,439.16. That is $3,439.16 more than today, a rise of 34.4%. A basket of business costs that is $10,000 today would need $13,439.16 after 10 years at a steady 3% inflation to buy the same things. Notice that the 10-year rise is more than double the 5-year rise of $1,592.74, because each year's inflation applies to an already larger amount.
Who this term suits for a business: a business planning a shop lease renewal or a second branch, where a 10-year horizon is long enough for inflation to change the rent, wage bill, and fit-out budget in a serious way, but short enough to plan for.
FAQs
What does inflation do to money?
Inflation reduces what money can buy, so a sum today will need to be larger in future to buy the same things.
Is this business calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate for planning only, based on the numbers you enter.
Are these figures financial advice?
No, they are estimates for planning only, not financial advice. Check with a qualified adviser for decisions involving large sums.
Why does 10-year inflation add $3,439.16, more than double the 5-year rise?
Because inflation compounds. After 5 years the amount is already $11,592.74, and the next 5 years of 3% apply to that larger figure, not to the original $10,000. That is why the second 5 years add $1,846.42, more than the first 5 years added.
How does a 10-year figure change a shop lease renewal plan?
A rent that is affordable today may not be affordable in 10 years if wages and stock costs also rise by about a third. Before signing a long lease, compare the rent rises in the lease with the roughly 34.4% rise this figure implies, and check whether prices can rise enough to cover both.
Is 3% a safe assumption for a full 10 years?
It is a reasonable planning assumption, not a promise. Over 10 years inflation often averages near 3% in stable economies, but individual years can be much higher. Re-run the figure at 4% or 5% as a stress test before committing to a 10-year lease or loan.
